The wonderful poet Rumi said, “You think yourself just a drop within the Ocean, but you are also the Ocean in a drop."
Rumi wrote not just to entertain or inspire but to draw his readers to a higher state of consciousness and self-realization
When I have pondered how I can be of service, I have spent my life listening for “the Call, ” wondering if it was coming from my Ego or my Soul.
I invite you to join me on our own journeys toward highter consciousness and SELF-realization, as we recognize we are already whole and can live our life with less worry and more peace.
I wrote this entry several years ago….
The Little Wave
There once was a Little Wave who happily lived in the Ocean.
Every day, every moment, Little Wave would watch as countless other waves scurried by, hurrying furiously, throwing themselves against a shore, anxious to be the biggest, the strongest, the fastest, the highest wave of them all.
Some of the waves kept wishing they could be as big as the Ocean.
They wanted to become their own ocean. But all they could do was try to be a bigger wave. Instead of creating the vast wonder to which they aspired, these waves wrought havoc, danger, and even death.
Little Wave was content to buoy excited surfers or offer a pleasant and safe experience to skiers, boaters, and swimmers.
The ambitious waves became tidal waves, hurricanes, tsunamis, leaving devastation in their wake.
And the Little Wave observed all of this activity of the other waves – without judgment.
The Little Wave had compassion for its fellow waves who kept trying to become what Little Wave already was - part of the Ocean.
In their constant attempts to be larger than and different from in order to feel separate and distinct, those other waves lost sight of the vastness of their being by constantly striving to do more.
The Little Wave was content to be the Ocean, with its depth and inner life and serenity at its core.
No matter what the weather or the seeming outer reality, inside the Ocean was always calm. Life forms were supported, coexisting in harmony.
There was always peace, balance, calm.
But those frantic waves never slowed down enough to see the beauty they already possessed within. They kept crashing against countless shores, never attaining the potential which they didn’t know they already were.
And the Little Wave kept being exactly what it was, distinct, and yet amazingly unified. It’s own being, yet part of a greater whole. And as it ebbed and flowed, it was always humbly and gratefully aware of it’s own immensity.
Little Wave could not tell the other waves what it already knew.
They did not want to hear, and would not believe until they were ready.
But Little Wave continued to hope that someday soon the other waves would become aware of their own magnificence and slow down to co-create even more tranquility all around.
Which kind of wave are you? Please let me know your thoughts…
If you feel this would resonate with anyone you know, please share.
